Blogs on the Internet Assignment

Dave Birkelo's IT Concepts Class

a. A Blog is an online journal of personal information posted in chronological order. It is sometimes used as a "mini website" or source of information for the public. A blog can also be a collection of short discussions.

b. Blogs can be used to keep friends and family up to date with personal events. Blogs can be used to share or post information to anyone who wants to access your thoughts. Microsoft employees for example sometimes post blogs so that other employees or the public can be informed about the development of new technology.

c. Some other blog hosting services available other than Blogger include:

BlogTV, ING, Photolog, Care2, MySpace, and Open Diary.

d. Multiple authors can post to a blog usually needing the original author's consent.

e. A permalink is a permanent URL that directs to a specific blog entry after it passes from the front page to the archives. Using a permalink prevents old blog postings which have been moved from becoming invalid. Users can use a permalink to bookmark a current blog post.

f. An author does not need to know HTML or CSS because the WYSIWYG blog editor does all of the work of coding in the background.

g. A RSS feed is a format used for delivering web content that is changing on a regular basis.
A user can use a RSS feed like a bookmark to a website.  A user can also use a RSS reader to get current info from a website

h. I would want a RSS feed on my blog to make it easier for readers to read the most recent posts without having to navigate to my blog.
